Cherupayar Payasam/Green Gram Kheer

When ever I cook Green gram/cherupayar  as a side dish like a curry or a stir fry I reserve a little for my kids who loves eating it with sugar.I have mentioned about my young one who is a picky eater does no go easy with all this Dal and legume types, but likes eating this with sugar.
He adds a lot of sugar which I just can't tolerate,so just tried making this in a kheer/payasam form with jaggery and coconut milk which is a little more healthier. Here I haven't taken so many extracts of the coconut milk but just added the first extract only.Though I made this in a very simple and easy form, still it tasted awesome.
Ingredients
Green gram/cherupayar  1 cup
Coconut grated   13/4 cup
Jaggery  200g
Water     as needed
Salt  a pinch(to taste)
Cardamom powder  1/2 tsp
Method
-Cook the greem gram with enough water till soft (you can use a pressure cooker )
-In a saucepan add the jaggery and 1/4 cup of water.Heat this and melt the jaggery. Now strain this and keep aside.
-Add 2 cups of water and the grated coconut in a blender.Blend this and strain the coconut milk.Keep this aside.
-Once the gram has cooked well add salt and the strained Jaggery syrup and let it boil. Now add in the Coconut milk and the Cardamom powder.Mix well and when it starts to boil switch off the flame.
-Serve after sometime.
*To make it a little more rich you can temper it with fried Cashew nuts in a little ghee.
